Folding carton board Cutting

Connect the dieline, grain direction and crease design so a digital sample behaves like the intended carton.

Understand the material

Folding carton board is converted into scored and cut blanks. The board grade, coating and grain orientation affect folding and the look of the finished package.

What makes this job demanding

A sample can cut accurately and still fold poorly. Crease width, grain direction and surface cracking must be evaluated together with fit, glue flaps and locking features.

Process and tooling review

Separate cutting and creasing layers in the artwork. Produce a representative blank, fold it and inspect closure behavior. Check print registration when artwork crosses a fold or reaches the cut edge.

Typical applications

  • Carton development
  • Short-run presentation packaging
  • Print-to-cut packaging samples

  • Board grade, coating and grain direction
  • Fold and glue-flap requirements
  • Registration marks and bleed
  • Finished product fit and closure design

Frequently asked questions

Why approve an assembled carton instead of only the flat blank?

Assembly reveals fold cracking, closure interference and fit errors that cannot be judged from the cut outline alone. Use the actual board and print finish.

What should I send for an application review?

Provide the exact stock designation, material construction, dimensions and representative drawing. State the edge finish and part acceptance criteria so the proposed configuration can be reviewed.
