Digital Gasket Cutting

Assess small features, stock stability and dimensional acceptance before selecting a gasket cutting configuration.

Production challenge

Gasket blanks can contain tight holes and narrow bridges that behave differently from a simple outside contour. Material compound and backing change how the stock responds.

Materials in the workflow

Gasket materials

Evaluate gasket cutting by the actual compound, smallest feature and finished-part acceptance criteria.

Required operations

A digital path can define custom sheet parts, but the tool and setup require validation for the exact compound. BK lists rubber in its manufacturer materials; that is not approval of every gasket grade.

From job file to finished parts

  1. Identify the stockUse the compound designation and actual material construction.
  2. Prepare difficult featuresInclude the smallest holes, narrow webs and production tolerances.
  3. Cut and measureEvaluate the relaxed finished part with the intended inspection method.
  4. Approve the applicationKeep cutting acceptance separate from engineering qualification of the seal.

Questions before selecting equipment

  • Stock hardness and reinforcement
  • Small-feature geometry
  • Post-cut relaxation and measurement
  • Production and sealing acceptance criteria

Frequently asked questions

Can a prototype cut validate the final seal?

A cut sample can validate manufacturability and dimensions. Sealing performance and material suitability require the separate engineering evaluation used for the finished product.
